How to Make Your Own Cranberry Sauce

I’m not sure about your family traditions, but cranberry sauce has always been a staple on my family’s table on Thanksgiving Day. However, what I’m used to is the canned stuff. While it’s not super expensive, actual fresh cranberries are now in season, so you can make cranberry sauce on the cheap from scratch.

WikiHow’s recipe couldn’t be easier to make, and you’ll only need three ingredients:

  • 12 oz. of fresh cranberries
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of water

Here’s what you do:

  1. Rinse and clean your cranberries in a colander.
  2. Bring your water and sugar to a boil. Make sure you keep stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Remove that mixture from the heat and add in the cranberries. Stir and return to a boil.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium low and simmer. Stir sauce gently until the cranberries start to pop (about 5-12 minutes).
  5. Let the sauce cool completely. If you want chilled sauce, refrigerate for 2 1/2 hours.
  6. Serve!
