How to Make Mmm-Worthy Mozzarella Monkey Bread
Stories vary on how “monkey loaf” got its name, but one thing’s for sure—being in its tempting presence is enough to make anyone consider going a little ape to get a bite. Avoid kitchen chaos by keeping this easy recipe from Oh, Bite It! on hand. It’s a cheesy twist on the traditionally sweet monkey loaf that will have both kids and adults begging for more.
You’ll Need:
– One 8 biscuit container of Pillsbury Grands Flaky Layers Biscuits, or your favorite homemade biscuit dough (Be sure to make enough to wrap around the cheese.)
– 3/4 pound of fresh, soft, dry mozzarella, not packed in water
– 1/2 cup butter, melted
How To:
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Prep a bread loaf pan by coating with non-stick cooking spray.
- Cut the mozzarella into cubes approximately 1 inch in size.
- Cut each of the biscuits in half, and roll each half into a ball.
- Roll out each of the biscuit balls into an even circle large enough to wrap around a cube of the mozzarella.
- Place one mozzarella cube in the center of each dough circle and wrap the dough tightly around the cheese. Make sure the dough is very well-sealed.
- Dip each stuffed dough ball in the melted butter and coat evenly.
- Place each buttered ball into the prepared bread loaf pan. Don’t worry about being neat!
- Bake for 20 minutes. About halfway through the baking process, cover the pan with foil to prevent the top from burning before the center is fully cooked.
To serve, you can flip the loaf onto a serving dish or eat it directly from the pan. Either way, have some marinara sauce on hand for dipping! We have a feeling you won’t have to worry about leftovers with this one. Have you ever made a “monkey loaf” before? Do you think any other kind of cheese could work with this recipe?
