There’s a Giant Troll in Colorado That You Can Hike To (If You Know Where to Find It)

Are you an avid hiker who is looking to spice up your trail runs? If so, good news because something really amazing has popped up in the Colorado wilderness. No, it’s not Bigfoot–though that would be cool– it’s actually a 15-foot-tall troll!

Sadly, the troll isn’t a living, breathing being like other things that you might be used to encountering on your nature-based jaunts, but it is really, really impressive, especially in the artistic sense.

The troll statue, which is entitled Isak Heartstone, was created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo. Unsurprisingly, Dambo is no stranger to trolls–in fact, the artist is actually famous for displaying his troll-inspired creations all over the globe. It took Dambo about 10 days to construct the gigantic troll using recycled materials, such as building stone cairns, tools that are well-known to area climbers.

The art installation can be found in the hills of Breckenridge, Colorado on East Wellington Trail near the French Creek area. According to Out There Colorado, that particular trail is “beginner-level and family friendly,” though the site does warn that the trail’s 9,600-foot elevation can make it difficult for those who are not used to exercising in high altitudes. Good to know!

We’d love to hear your thoughts on this incredible art installation! Are you a fan of the troll? Have you ever seen any of Thomas Dambo’s work before? Do you have any awesome public art in your area that you love?
