Frugal Ways to Care for Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors are expensive to procure but they don’t have to be expensive to maintain. DIY Life has some great suggestions for fixing, cleaning and maintaining hardwood floors so that they remain in great condition throughout the years. Here are some quick and easy fixes that DIY Life suggests for concealing scratches in hardwood floors:

  1. Grab a marker: touch up scratches with a stain-filled marker.
  2. Rub the Scratch with the Edge of a Quarter: if this doesn’t work to conceal the scratch enough, rub a bit of paste wax and buff it with a soft cloth.
  3. Use Walnuts: rub shelled nuts on the surface of scratches. The natural oils in the nuts help to conceal flaws in wood.
  4. Spot Sand It: use extra-fine sandpaper or steel wool to gently buff scratched or chipped areas. Afterward, use a cotton swab or small paintbrush to restain wood.
