Here’s what you need:
1 (8-ounce) container mini mozzarella cheese balls
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 eggs, beaten
2 cups panko breadcrumbs
1 tbsp fresh parsley (chopped)
1 tbsp lemon zest
Pinch of red pepper flakes
Kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper
And here’s what you need for the marinara cream sauce:
-1 cup red sauce (your choice)
-2 tbsp heavy whipping cream
-Pinch of red pepper flakes
And here’s what you do!
- Preheat a deep fryer to 375 degrees.
- Drain mozzarella and pat dry.
- Add flour to a casserole dish, then add beaten eggs to a second separate casserole dish. Whisk together panko, parsley, lemon zest, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper and place into a third casserole dish.
- Dredge mozzarella first through the flour, then through the egg, then finally through the breadcrumb mixture. Once finished with all the balls, place them on a tray in the freezer for about 10 minutes.
- Fry mozzarella balls in batches in the oil until golden and crispy (about a minute per batch).
- Drain balls on paper towel-lined sheet trays. Season with salt.
- To make the sauce, mix red sauce, heavy cream and red pepper flakes together in a small bowl. Microwave until warm (about 2 minutes).
- Serve mozzarella balls with sauce on the side for dipping.
