6 Things You Didn’t Know You Could Freeze

Did you know that March is National Frozen Food Month? That means that throughout the month, you’ll see sales in the frozen foods sections in your local supermarkets, so take advantage while you can!

In the spirit of National Frozen Food Month, here are some foods that you may not have realized freeze well. Take a look:

  1. Eggs: one easy way to do this – just mix together egg yolks and whites, then pour them into ice cube trays. Two cubes will end up being the equivalent of one large egg.
  2. Milk: you can store milk in the freezer in its original container. Just make sure to pour out 1 cup per gallon to leave room for expansion. When you’re ready to use the milk, thaw it out in the fridge, then shake well before you enjoy.
  3. Tomatoes: after you wash these thoroughly, freeze them whole and unpeeled on a tray. Once they’ve frozen all the way through, just transfer them to freezer bags.
  4. Nuts: store these, either shelled or unshelled, in freezer bags in the freezer.
  5. Apples: you can basically freeze these in any condition – whole or chopped, peeled or unpeeled.
  6. Zucchini and Squash: wash and chop these to your desired size, then blanch for 3 minutes. Once they cool, freeze them in an airtight container.
