Ohio Woman Tased and Arrested for Trespassing After Refusing to Wear a Mask At Football Game

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone wears a mask in public places in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Along with that, many businesses and schools have set their own rules about whether or not masks are required at their locations.

At a middle school football game in Logon, Ohio, a woman named Alicia Kitts sat in the bleachers without wearing a face mask. Video from the game shows that everyone else who was watching the game was wearing a mask. It also looks like there was plenty of empty space between families to allow for social distancing.

A police officer approached Kitts several times telling her that she needed to either put on a face mask or she would need to leave. She refused to do either one, even though if you look closely in the video footage, it looks like she might have a mask in her back pocket.

When Kitts refused to wear a face mask, police arrested her for trespassing since they told her she would need to leave and she refused. She was screaming, cursing and fighting off the officer who ended up using a Taser in order to get her in handcuffs.

In response to this arrest, Superintendent Monte Bainter said, “We require masks, you know, like the Ohio Athletic Association guidelines say, and the health department guidelines say.”

In the video above, you heard several community members support the arrest, but not everyone in the community thinks it was the right decision. In another video taken during the arrest, you can hear the commentary of the person filming and whoever she is sitting with. The lady filming during the arrest clearly seems to think that arresting Kitts, who claimed she couldn’t wear the mask because she has asthma, was going too far.

Video footage from the arrest has been making the rounds on social media, and many people are chiming in with their thoughts in the comments. Opinions about whether or not this arrest was the right thing to do vary wildly.

One comment reads, “Omg you can’t be serious!! I absolutely hope they sue the hell out of this man and the company he works for! this is unnecessary and absolutely uncalled for!!”

Another person wrote, “If you are required to wear a mask at a school function and you don’t, that is your right. However, you are not free from consequences. Those consequences are being asked to leave. She had a choice and chose to make an ass out of herself and in front of her children. And then wants to act like she’s the victim. Shame on her.”

Do you think the police made the right decision to arrest Kitts at the football game, or do you think Kitts should have been allowed to stay at the game even though she wasn’t wearing a face mask?
