Billy Bob Thornton, 70, has shut down rumors that he plans to leave Landman after just two seasons. Thornton stars as Tommy Norris, the lead character in the Paramount+ series, which premiered in November 2024 and also features Sam Elliott and Demi Moore.
The show was renewed for a third season in November 2025, but speculation about Thornton’s involvement sparked concern among fans. Thornton says the rumors are completely false and blames what he called “AI-generated crap” for spreading the claims.
The Monster’s Ball star addressed the situation in an interview with USA Today, making it clear he has no plans to step away from the hit series. “There’s an AI report that Demi and I are a couple now, and there’s one that I’m leaving the show. They have nothing to do with reality,” Thornton said.
Reiterating that he will definitely return for season three — which is expected to begin filming this spring — Thornton made it clear he plans to stay with the series for as long as he’s wanted. He said he’s enjoyed working with Sam Elliott and loves being part of the show, adding that he’s committed to seeing it through whether it runs for five seasons, six seasons, or more.
Landman is a contemporary drama set in the high-stakes world of West Texas oil. The series follows Tommy Norris, a tough, sharp-tongued fixer who navigates the power struggles between oil executives, landowners, workers, and billionaires chasing massive profits.
Starring Billy Bob Thornton, the show explores greed, loyalty, family tensions, and the human cost of the energy boom. It blends corporate drama with personal conflict as Tommy balances dangerous deals, moral gray areas, and the fallout of decisions that impact entire communities.
Spoiler Alert-
Season 2 of Landman, co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, picks up after the death of M-Tex Oil founder Monty Miller. Tommy Norris and Monty’s widow, Cami, attempt to run the company together, but tensions rise as they clash over risky business decisions.
According to an article published by Fortune, the second to last episode shows Cami firing Tommy as president of M-Tex after he publicly opposes a dangerous offshore drilling plan she supports. The fallout reshapes the rest of the season.
By the finale, Tommy is rebuilding his life and launching a new company, while his daughter Ainsley decides to return to dorm living after standing up for her roommate. Meanwhile, Cooper avoids criminal charges after Tommy intervenes with police following a violent incident that began as an attempt to stop a sexual assault.
Paramount+ has not yet announced a release date for Season 3, but most of the main cast is expected to return. Based on the show’s past release schedule, the next season will likely arrive in late 2026.
