Dr. Jill Biden Debuts 2021 White House Holiday Decorations
With the pandemic halting many families’ holiday celebrations last year, Dr. Biden shared that this year’s White House decoration theme is “Gifts from the Heart,” with the idea that they’d showcase all the things that “unite and heal” and bring people together.
“Inspired by the acts of kindness and experiences that lifted our spirits this year, decorated rooms in the White House reflect the Gifts from the Heart that unite us all: faith, family, friendship, the arts, learning, nature, gratitude, service, community, peace, and unity,” she wrote on her Instagram page, where she shared photos of the decorations.

Each room is decorated to highlight her theme and really hits the nail on the head. For example, the Vermeil Room aims to showcase the “gift of the visual arts,” where there are wreaths created from paint-dipped paintbrushes and a tree with ornaments made of Pantone color sample swatches. The Library Room has beautiful butterflies to highlight the “gift of learning.”
Then, of course, there’s the gingerbread replica of the White House weighing in at 350 pounds in the State Dining Room, which took an executive pastry chef and her team weeks to create. There are also other gingerbread figures to give thanks to frontline workers who were at the heart of the pandemic, including a hospital, fire station, police station, and more.
As if that isn’t enough, the fireplace in the dining room also adorns six stockings—one for each Biden grandchild. The stockings were made by the same artisan as the rest of the family’s stockings.

As you can see, it’s quite a sight! The décor has been in the works for quite some time. In fact, Biden and the decorating crew began their planning in early summer, and it really shows.
When all was said and done, there are a total of 41 Christmas trees, 6,000 feet of ribbon, over 300 candles, and over 10,000 ornaments throughout the White House. And the thing is? It doesn’t even feel the least bit over the top! In fact, we think it’s the perfect touch for helping the family and others kick off the first hopeful holiday season we’ve had in a while.
What do you think of the White House holiday decorations and theme for this year?
