What NOT to Buy in December

While you may have some shopping to do in December, there are some purchases that you’ll want to stay far away from this month if you’re looking to save money. Take a look at some of the worst buys of the month of December:

Furniture

You’ll get much better deals on furniture if you wait until after Christmas. According to Kiplinger, furniture stores have clearance sales in January to clear out their old inventory before new styles are released in February.

Skis

While it may be tempting to get new skis for winter ski trips, you won’t see the best deals until the ski season winds down this year. Wait until March or April if you can and stock up for next winter.

Luggage

Luggage can be pretty pricey, and since it’s a popular holiday gift, you’re likely to pay full price if you buy in December. Wait until well after holiday travel season before you look into replacing your luggage. March will be the best time to take advantage of sales once business slows way down.

Perfume

This is also one of the times when perfume sales peak. Retailers should offer deep discounts on perfume after the holidays and before Valentine’s Day, so wait until then. If you wait, then you can save as much as 50% on your favorite scent.

Suits

Wait to buy suits until January, when spring collections start to come out and fall/winter collections go on sale.

Jewelry

Christmas is a very popular item on many a Christmas list, so you probably won’t find many great deals. If you can, wait until after the holidays to check out and buy jewelry.
