Virgin’s First Cruise Ship, the Adults-Only Scarlet Lady, Will Set Sail in 2020
What do you think of when you think of a cruise ship? All-day buffets filled with so-so food? Kids running around underfoot? Tiny staterooms?
What if there were a cruise ship that had all the positives (tropical destinations, swimming pools, etc) without the negatives? Get ready, because in 2020 Richard Branson wants to take you on a cruise.
That’s right, the Virgin empire king is branching out into the cruise ship business with Virgin Voyages. The first ever Virgin cruise ship is named the “Scarlet Lady,” and she will be setting sail from a port in Miami before traveling to the Caribbean.
Even the terminal design will be unique. “The terminal’s rooftop is designed to resemble a palm tree grove with pockets that allow natural light to flow into the building.” If you think this is cool, just wait until you hear about the cruise ship.
This is truly a cruise ship designed for rock stars. Every one of the 78 RockStar suites and the 15 Mega RockStar suites has a king size bed, a vanity table and tools to mix your own drinks. The Massive suite even has a music room stocked with guitars and amps. The music room can double as a second bedroom.
You won’t find any buffets on this cruise ship either. Instead, there will be multiple (20+) intimate eateries featuring delicious global cuisine. Everything will be made to order, and every restaurant will have a bar.
One restaurant, Razzle Dazzle, will have a menu featuring everything from burgers to salads, all familiar and all delicious. It will be a vegetarian-friendly menu, so there will be something for everyone, no matter how picky the pallet.
Other restaurants include Wake, which will serve steak and seafood. Then there’s The Test Kitchen where every single ingredient will be listed on the menu. If you’re in the mood for Korean BBQ, head to Geonbae. Pink Agave will feature upscale Mexican cuisine. If you want pizza, the made-to-order pizzas at The Pizza Palace are sure to satisfy. If you want authentic Italian food, head to Extra Virgin.
While there aren’t any buffets on the ship, The Galley is a made-to-order food market where you’ll have a multitude of options at all hours of the day. And, of course, every restaurant including The Galley offers spectacular views.
Oh, yeah. This is an adults only cruise ship. No kids allowed. In order to board the ship, you have to be at least 18 years old. That means every pool is adults-only and there won’t be any crying over-tired kids in any of the restaurants. Hire a babysitter or take the kids to Grandma’s if you want to cruise like a rock star.
