Carrie Underwood Opens Up About Multiple Miscarriages and Conversations With God
If you’re a country music fan, you know that the reigning “Queen of Country,” Carrie Underwood, has endured quite a lot in the past couple of years. Just a few months ago, we gave you the full scoop on Underwood’s horrific accident, a fall that occurred last November on the steps leading up to her Nashville home. Unfortunately for the songstress, the injury was a particularly tough one–she suffered facial injuries so bad, they required 40-50 stitches.
Because of the fall, Underwood was forced to cancel a slew of appearances and, since she is a public figure, had to provide an explanation for her absence. It was obviously a trying time for the Grammy Award-winning singer, but we now know that she was going through so much more at that time than she previously revealed.
In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Underwood opened up about her particularly hard 2017, one that included the traumatic fall, as well as multiple miscarriages. According to the singer, she suffered a staggering 3 miscarriages within a one-year span, her last occurring right at the start of 2018, just after she sustained her injury.
During the interview, Underwood broke down into sobs as she recounted her harrowing journey. She explained that she found comfort in her work during that time and used elements of her real-life tragedies as inspiration for her new album Cry Pretty.
“Throughout the whole process, you know, I’m writing, and, like, literally, right after finding out I would lose a baby, I’d have a writing session,” Underwood recalls. “I’d be, like, ‘Let’s go’, I can’t just sit around thinking about this. I want to work. I want to do this.”
In addition to finding an outlet for her grief by infusing the events into her music, the singer also said that she found solace in her faith. After a particularly scary night in which she believed she might again be miscarrying, Underwood had, what she describes as being her first “conversation with God.”
After that episode of late-night anguish, she visited her doctor the following week, fully expecting to be told that she had miscarried once again. But, it was then that something amazing happened–“They told me everything was great,” Underwood says.
It was a special moment for the country singer; she had been through so much and now she had successfully gotten pregnant. Now, Underwood is pregnant with that very “rainbow baby,” and she will officially become a mother for the second time.
Whew! We don’t know about you, but that’s a story that really gets to us. It just goes to show you that people, even those with seemingly “perfect” lives, can be going through so much without us knowing it. Yet another reason to exhibit kindness and patience every day!
