Texas Man Tests Petco’s ‘All Leashed Pets Are Welcome’ Policy By Bringing His Steer Into the Store
When we think of leashed pets, we mainly think of dogs. We assume Petco is basically saying that it’s okay to bring your dog inside as long as he’s on a leash. Perhaps there could be an instance where a cat is on a leash. Some cats might stand for that. Regardless, we assume that the store is telling pet parents not to let their animals run loose in the store but to keep them on a leash.
Well, Shelly Lumpkin and Oliver Browning are taking the policy a little differently. They’re not thinking of it as a warning to keep your dog (or cat) on a leash in the store. They’re focusing on the “all” part of the policy. They wondered, are all pets really welcome as long as they’re on a leash? There’s only one way to find out, and they did.
They say that everything’s bigger in Texas, and apparently pets are too. The pet category isn’t limited to cats, dogs, reptiles, fish and other common household pets. No, they also include animals you’d typically find on a farm.
Lumpkin and Browning put their long-horned steer, an African Watusi named Oliver, on a leash and walked him into Petco. Yes; they really did.
Browning posted about the experience on his Facebook page. He included a video where he is holding the leash and Oliver is obediently walking along behind him. Both Browning and Lumpkin can be heard laughing on the video. They know this is just a little bit ridiculous.
We’re really impressed with how Oliver is able to make it through the store’s glass doors. He even turns his head to the side a little to get through the entrance.
What’s even more impressive is the reaction that they get once they enter Petco. They are greeted by a friendly employee who simply says, “Welcome to south Texas Petco,” as if nothing is out of the ordinary at all.
Browning wrote on Facebook, “We decided to take a chance and call Petco ‘s bluff on the ‘ALL LEASHED PETS ARE WELCOME’ policy. The awesome crew at Petco – Atascocita did not disappoint!! They welcomed Oliver the African Watusi with open arms. The staff members here are always super friendly and courteous to us. We really enjoy coming to this location…our favorite Petco BY FAR!!”
Browning’s post has now been shared more than 7000 times. As one person commented on the post, “That’s awesome! Only in Texas.”
Only in Texas, indeed. How would you react if you saw an African Watusi inside Petco?
