Some movies have sequels right away. The movie comes out. It’s a hit. Quickly the people who made the movie get together to come up with an idea for a new movie about the same characters. A year or a few later, the sequel is released.

That’s not always how it works. Sometimes movies do well and become cult classics, but years later there’s still no sequel. Fans have to console themselves with the fact that they won’t see the characters on new adventures. Instead, they’ll have to watch the exact same movie over and over again.

This isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes people look forward to watching their favorite movies over and over again, especially when it’s a seasonal movie. Take “Elf” for example. No sequel. Very popular. We look forward to watching it every holiday season.

When it comes to Halloween time, there’s another film we find ourselves watching every year – “Hocus Pocus.” The movie about the 17th century Sanderson sisters in what was at the time modern day Salem is just the right amount of spooky to enjoy with our kids and put us in the mood to go trick-or-treating.

A very long 29 years later, something we thought might never happen has finally happened. There is a sequel. “Hocus Pocus 2” will be released on Disney+ before Halloween. Now, there’s a new teaser trailer for the film in which we see the three witches ready to take on the world.

According to a statement about the film from Disney+, “It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters, and they are looking for revenge. Now it is up to three high-school students to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve.”

Kathy Najimy, Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker are all back reprising their roles as the Sanderson sisters. The new film also stars Juju Brener, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Froy Gutierrez, Tony Hale, Taylor Paige Henderson, Doug Jones, Nina Kitchen, Whitney Peak, Sam Richardson and Hannah Waddingham.
