You Can Get in the Holiday Spirit by Spending the Night in the House from ‘A Christmas Story’
If you think about some of your favorite Christmas movies, you probably think of movies such as Home Alone or Elf, which certainly put us in a festive mood.
But the movie that really strikes a chord for some of us is A Christmas Story. This beloved 1983 film follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker who would do anything for an official Red Ryder carbine action 200-shot range model air rifle (aka a BB gun) to show up under his tree on Christmas Day.
The movie basically consists of Ralphie trying to convince everyone from his parents to his teacher to Santa Claus that this is the perfect gift for him. If you watched this movie growing up, it probably holds a special place in your heart.
A Christmas Story is just one of those feel-good Christmas movies you crave watching the morning of the holiday. But we’re going to do you one better—instead of simply watching the movie on TV on Christmas morning, why not spend a night at Ralphie’s house? That’s right, his family’s home is open for the public to visit!
While the town in the film is based on Hammond, Indiana, it was actually filmed in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio, and that’s where the home is located.
And honestly, the price is a steal: Rooms start at just under $200 a night. Some chain hotels cost more than that! Just note that staying around the holidays will cost a bit more.
Plus, it gets even better: Located across the street from Ralphie’s abode is the A Christmas Story Museum, where you can go see a ton of the original props, costumes and memorabilia from the film. (This includes Randy’s snowsuit, the Higbee’s window, the chalkboard from Miss Shields’ classroom and the family car!)
In addition, the museum houses a collection of rarely seen behind-the-scenes photos. You can spend all day basking in the nostalgia!
While the Christmas Story House has been giving tours since it was restored in 2006, it was only recently when it opened its doors for people to actually spend the night there, offering the entire home for your stay.
There’s more: You probably remember from the film that right to the left of Ralphie’s house are his hillbilly neighbors, the Bumpuses. Well the Bumpus House is also available for overnight stays!
Don’t worry, no smelly hound dogs included—“they have a bad reputation of stealing the Christmas turkey,” the website states. But what is included? Admission to A Christmas Story House!
Both houses feature the eclectic 1940s style that you remember from the movie, except don’t worry, it still has all your modern amenities.

If you do stay there, just make sure you don’t shoot your eye out, kid!
