Shirtless Man Casually Rides Horse Through Hurricane Florence’s Floodwaters

While Hurricane Florence didn’t cause as much damage as once anticipated, it was still considered a Category 1 hurricane when it hit Wrightsville Beach in New Hanover County, North Carolina the night of Sunday, September 16. The rain powered down heavily, about 3 to 6 inches with heavier amounts south.

It was definitely no type of weather for anyone to be outside or traveling on the roads—in any form of transportation. The governor cautioned locals to stay off the roads if possible and evacuees were even told not to return home at that point when the rain was heaviest.

Nevertheless, of course there always has to be someone breaking the rules. Besides law enforcement and news crews covering the storm, there was one more person out and about while Florence came barreling down: A man riding a horse without a shirt on.

Water was flooding the streets like crazy, and this shirtless man and his horse were just gallivanting through the waters like it was no big deal. He rode right past a live news reporter as she was discussing the storm. “There’s no reason to be that guy,” she said.

What was his reasoning? Was he just trying to make a statement? Was he trying to get his horse back to his family who could’ve been stuck in the storm? Was he actually an aquatic animal just wanting to be outside in the rain where he felt most at home? There are a lot of questions here.

After the news report was posted, some Facebook users gave us the answer: Man said this man’s name was “Little Jim” and he was just out checking on everyone to make sure no one needed help. It has yet to be confirmed whether that’s true or not, but if it is, we totally give “Little Jim” props for being such a hero.

Do you know who this man is, and if he’s really “Little Jim” trying to check on everyone? What was the strangest thing you ever saw in a storm?
