Shake Off the Calories With This Easy, Low-Cal Shamrock Milkshake

It’s that time of year when all of the tempting goodies become St. Patrick’s Day green. One of the biggest indulgences out there is the Shamrock Shake® at McDonald’s, which – like most fast-food beverages – has a ridiculous amount of calories, sugar, and saturated fats. You could always throw caution to the wind and grab one anyway, but why do that when you can make Hungry Girl’s version at home?

All You Have to Do Is Blend:

– 3/4 cup unsweetened, vanilla almond milk or soy milk (Hungry Girl recommends Blue Diamond’s Natural Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze)
– 1 ounce, or about 6 tablespoons, vanilla protein powder with about 100 calories per serving (Hungry Girl recommends Tera’s Whey)
– 1/3 cup spinach leaves
– 1/8 teaspoon peppermint extract
– 1 1/4 cups crushed ice, or 6 to 10 ice cubes

Blend it all together at high speed until smooth. Pause occasionally to stir as you see fit.

This at-home version has only 133 calories and fills you up with the protein! How great is it to have a festive, delicious drink that doesn’t break the bank or your waistline? What other seasonal drinks have you learned to make at home?
