If you’ve ever been to the beach before, you know the number one rule. It’s not stay out of the rip current or not to leave your valuable unattended – although those are important beach rules. No, the most crucial beach rule is to never feed the seagulls. Seagulls are a constantly-hungry and pretty relentless breed of bird, and once they get a taste of food they’ll do just about anything to get another. That usually means they’ll annoy the heck out of you the entire day.

In this case, though, feeding the seagulls isn’t such a bad thing. Mostly because this seagull really has to work for his much-anticipated treat. He doesn’t have to exert himself with usual, obnoxious seagull tactics; all he has to do is win a cup game.

You know that puzzle game where you turn over three cups, one of which has a small object hidden underneath? Then you mix the cups up quickly while the player tries to closely keep an eye on the right cup. After doing some really thorough mixing, the player has to guess which cup has the object underneath, and if they guess correctly then they’ve won!

Usually, this is a game people just play for fun or maybe for a small carnival prize. But this seagull is playing for the greatest prize of all: a snack. The greatest prize of all to a seagull, that is.

This seagull has unwittingly wandered into the yard of the clever videographer. Rather than shoo him away or just give him food, the man behind the camera decides to have a little fun with the seagull. He brings out three, opaque, plastic cups and a bite of food.

As the bird watches in confusion, the man sets up the three cups, popping the treat underneath one so that we (and the seagull) can see. Then, with the seagull’s beady eyes on him, he mixes up the cups a bit. He almost loses his own game when the treat slips out from under the cup, but he quickly catches it and mixes the cups up again.

Despite this, the bird guesses the correct cup with almost no hesitation. He slaps the cup over with his beak and gobbling up his treat. So the man decides to make the second round a little harder! The man scrambles up the cups a lot more thoroughly this time. He goes faster and moved the cups a few more times than it did at first.

Even though the game has been made a little more challenging, the seagull still gets the right cup on his first guess! What a seriously quick, smart bird. Or maybe he’s just a bird that just has a great sense of smell and a very empty stomach? Either way, this is a hilarious video and a really fun take on the idea of “not feeding the seagulls.”
