For any sporting event or outdoor party, the cooler is an absolute necessity. What else will house all your water bottles and beer? Whether it’s for football season, a springtime picnic in the park, or a beach party of epic proportions, this adorable and rustic take on your regular old cooler is sure to spice up any get-together.

YouTube channel Home Repair Tutor is showing us a really cool way to take a regular old cooler and give it a trendy makeover that will make you the envy of your neighborhood. Don’t worry, it’s really easy to make and doesn’t take away from the classic function of a cooler – it just makes it look a lot, well, cooler!

Here’s what you’ll need to get started on this fun DIY:

  • Plain cooler
  • 5 palettes
  • Dremel saw
  • Drill
  • Wood screws
  • Wood glue

You’ll want to start in a surprising way – by taking apart your cooler. Take all the hardware off the cooler (your handles, the wheels, and even the hinges that hold on the lid) and remove the lid from the base. You’re going to surround the plastic with your palettes in a very specific way, and we would definitely suggest watching the video below to see how he does it step-by-step.

When you’re done, you’ll have completely re-invented your cooler! With this easy DIY, you can give any cheap, plastic cooler a chic, rustic makeover that will make it look like a store-bought piece.
