Picture this: you are shopping at your favorite clothing store, getting ready to spend some hard-earned cash to upgrade your kicks when a mother walks in with her teen son. You go back to focusing on your purchase when, all of a sudden, you start to realize that something is very amiss. The teenager is berating his mother because she won’t buy him an ultra-expensive pair of high-end sneakers. It’s a terrible sight to watch and, as the minutes tick by, the situation just gets worse and worse.

What would you do?

If this were us, we’re honestly not quite sure *what* we do. As much as we don’t like watching anyone being abused, especially the mother of a teenage boy (they all deal with enough on a daily basis!), we also aren’t all that keen on intruding into other peoples’ business. Especially when it comes to parenting and child-rearing! But, that’s just us…

Now, let’s make some changes to the situation. Say that the same expensive shoe tug-of-war is occurring between a father and his teen daughter. Like the son in the aforementioned scenario, she’s particularly nasty towards her dad, humiliating him and making a scene for all other shoppers to witness. It’s painful to watch, and you wonder what role you should take–a shopper with selective hearing who pretends not to be listening in on this blow-up, or a concerned citizen who decides to give the kiddo a piece of your mind.

What would you do?

Now, if the structuring of these scenarios seems at all familiar to you, you’ve probably watched the ABC show What Would You Do? The reality program, which is hosted by ABC news correspondent John Quinones, stages emotionally evocative situations in public, challenging passersby to step in and help complete strangers. It’s like a spin on Candid Camera, except it’s a heck of a lot more emotional. 

In the clip we are sharing with you today, the television show’s team set up this very scenario at a sneaker room in Jersey City, New Jersey. Folks from New Jersey aren’t known for keeping their opinions to themselves, so, predictably, the shoppers who unknowingly walked into this hidden camera show had quite a bit to say to both the teens as well as the parents.

But, as mentioned, the scenarios ARE different–one features a mother and son pair, while the other features a father and daughter. Do you think the shoppers reacted differently based on the pairings?
