Picture this scene: It’s a Saturday night, and you’re getting ready for a cozy night in to watch a movie. You grab a pack of popcorn to make and settle in for the evening. But once the popcorn comes out of the microwave and you empty it into a bowl, the frustrations starts: Why are there SO many un-popped kernels?
Having kernels in a bowl of popcorn just kind of ruins the vibe, doesn’t it? Once you get down to the last popped piece, you just have these hard, crunchy bits left. It makes us sad.
The thing is, there’s actually a really easy hack to never having kernels in your popcorn—and we only discovered this hack thanks to a TikToker who went viral for his simple popcorn-making video.
The TikToker, named “@sidneyraz,” creates all kinds of tips and tricks for everyday life—but this one really takes the cake. He explains that after you pop your popcorn, you’re supposed to shake out the kernels through that tiny opening in the bottom. In fact, that’s apparently what it’s there for (contrary to popular belief that it’s there to vent out the hot air).
“Here’s something I wish I knew before I was in my 30s,” he says in the clip. “You’re supposed to shake out the popcorn kernels that haven’t popped.”
He then shakes his newly popped bag to demonstrate what he means and sure enough—all of the un-popped kernels come out, leaving all the popped popcorn inside the bag, ready to devour.
“Wait this is crazy,” someone wrote.
“Yessssss!! I’ve been doing this for ages! My dad taught me. I just showed a friend recently and they were as mind blown as you,” another person wrote.
However, others admitted that they actually like eating the un-popped kernels, so this hack wasn’t as necessary for them.
“I like to eat the unpopped kernels, it makes me feel like a bird,” someone joked.
“The best is the semi-popped ones,” someone else agreed.
Well, at least for those of us who prefer a popped kernel, this hack is absolutely genius! We can’t wait to make a big bag of popcorn to enjoy.
