Queen Elizabeth II was the longest reigning British monarch. She became Queen when she was just 25 years old, and her reign ended at the age of 98 when she died at Balmoral Castle in Ballater, Scotland.

On September 8, 2022, The Queen’s family was altered that her health was failing. Her daughter, Princess Anne, arrived at her bedside first. Prince Charles, who was crowed King Charles III after her death, and his wife Camilla arrived next. Prince William, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, and Edward’s wife, Sophie, also traveled to Balmoral Castle later that same day. Prince Harry rushed off to travel to his grandmother’s side as well, but being half-way around the world, it’s probably safe to assume he did not arrive before she died.

The Queen’s death certificate reveals that The Queen’s time of death was 3:10pm UK time. The death certificate, which was signed by Princess Anne, also reveals that The Queen’s official cause of death was listed as old age. There was nothing else listed under cause of death.

The Queen ruled the UK for 70 years and celebrated her Platinum Jubilee earlier this year. After she died, a period of national mourning began.

Immediately after his mother’s death, Charles officially became King, but two days after her death, on September 10th, he was formally proclaimed king. During the ceremony, which was held at St James’s Palace, King Charles III spoke of his late mother calling her time on the throne, “unequaled in its duration, its dedication and its devotion.” He added, “Even as we grieve, we give thanks for this most faithful life.”

The Queen’s funeral took place on September 19th and included a 25-mile procession in which The Queen’s flag-draped coffin was transported to her final resting place.

Her final resting place was not located in the royal vault but inside the King George VI Memorial Chapel, an annex of St. George’s Chapel. This is also the final resting place of her husband, Prince Philip, her father, King George VI, her mother, The Queen Mother, and her sister, Princess Margaret.
