On Thursday February, 10, 2022, Prince Charles tested positive for Covid-19 just two days after visiting his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. At the time, the Queen was told to rest as a precaution even though her Covid test came back negative. Meanwhile, Prince Charles’s wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles, who also tested negative, carried on with her usual duties while her husband was in self-isolation.

The weekend passed, and the Queen felt fine, so she decided to continue on with her normal duties. Meanwhile, Camilla tested positive for Covid and also went into isolation.

Another week passed, and on Sunday February 20, 2022, Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen had tested positive for Covid-19. Did she catch it over a week ago when her son visited? Did she catch it from someone in her staff? It is not known exactly how she got Covid-19, but considering there is currently an outbreak of Covid among her staff, it is not terribly surprising that she caught it.

The palace released a short statement about the Queen’s condition, simply stating, “As Her Majesty is still experiencing mild cold-like symptoms she has decided not to undertake her planned virtual engagements today, but will continue with light duties.” Not more is known about the Queen’s condition, but it sounds like she has a fairly mild case.

Although the palace has only confirmed that the Queen and her late husband, Prince Philip, received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in January 2021, the British media is reporting that sources say she is fully vaccinated.

A source told PEOPLE that the staff at Windsor Castle are tested for Covid on a regular basis. In addition, anyone entering the castle is expected to be tested for Covid.
