Quarantined Italians Sing Together Out of Their Windows Across Empty Streets

These are definitely unusual times. Stores are running low on basic supplies like toilet paper. We’re washing our hands so much that they’re extremely dry. Schools are closing. Almost every group event has been canceled.

Coronavirus hit China hard, but the second most impacted country in the world right now is Italy. The whole country is on lockdown. Instead of milling around in the streets and going about life as normal, Italian citizens are staying in their homes and apartments.

Although the streets are deserted, Italians are still interacting with each other even without leaving their homes. We’re not talking about the internet or Facetime. We’re talking about singing.

Several videos have captured the eerie beauty of Italians singing together and to each other across deserted streets and walkways. The tone seems to be upbeat, especially considering the circumstances.

Many people have been very moved by these videos.

Some people on Reddit have pointed out that the singing is reminiscent of the residents of Wuhan singing together while in quarantine during the first few days of the coronavirus outbreak.

Perhaps the United States should take a lesson from Italy. If we’re working remotely and the schools are closed, perhaps we can sing together.
