Prince Philip has died on April 9, 2021 at the age of 99. And while he was as the longest-serving consort of any British monarch in history, he also had a large loving family life behind the royal intricacies.

First off, he was married to the love of his life, his Queen Elizabeth II, for over seven decades: a whopping 73 years. The pair got engaged in 1947; Elizabeth was just 21 and Philip was 26. They got married later that year, but not without some controversy over Philips lack of financial standing.

They began their family one year after their wedding, when Prince Charles the Prince of Wales, was born in 1948. And as the years went on, they ended up with a total of four children, with the addition of Prince Andrew the Duke of York, Princess Anne the Princess Royal and Prince Edward Earl of Wessex.

It’s thanks to their loving family life that they now have a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. However, we rarely got to see them enjoying time together as a family—until now.

With the passing of Prince Philip, the official Instagram account for the British royal family shared a rare photo of the two of them posing for a portrait with seven of their 10 great-grandchildren

However, that was all of their great-grandchildren at the time, as the photo was taken in 2018. The only ones who aren’t present are the ones who weren’t born yet: Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s 1-year-old son Archie, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s 2-month-old son August and Zara Phillips and Michael Tindall’s newborn son Lucas.

The photo is all too precious and reminds us what’s truly important in life: Building a family legacy you can be proud of and spending time with your family.
