Prince Charles Will Reportedly Step Into Prince Philip’s Role by the Queen’s Side

He’s not king yet, but Prince Charles is going to have a more prominent role in the royal family. The death of his father, Prince Philip, leaves a void that needs to be filled, and he is the obvious choice to move into the role of royal consort.

Prince Philip stepped away from royal duties back in 2016, and Prince Charles has stepped up to accompany his mother, The Queen, multiple times since. However, now the role is going to be “more significant and active” according to a source that spoke to The Sun

Prince Charles’s first official duty in his new role will be to accompany his mother to the State Opening of Parliament on May 11th, 2021. A source explained, “There will be a visible show of support for the Queen from senior members of the family at future events, and the opening of Parliament is no exception.”

Charles discussed royal duties with his father while he was in the hospital. It is no surprise that he will be taking on more responsibilities before one day being crowned as King. According to a Lords source, “It is a clear signal that the Queen does not want the crown to skip a generation and that Prince Charles will start taking on an even bigger role in royal life.”

Like his father, Prince William will be taking on more responsibilities as well. A source explained, “William and Kate are determined to lead from the front. William’s tribute to his grandfather about ‘getting on with the job’ was very apt.”

In addition to Prince Charles, Prince William and Duchess Kate, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, is also expected to be given more responsibilities. In contrast, Prince Andrew is not expected to be taking on new responsibilities, and there is little to no chance of Prince Harry returning to any responsibilities of royal life.

Does it surprise you that Prince Charles will be taking on new responsibilities? How long do you think it will be before he is crowned King?
