There are multiple reasons people choose to upgrade from a traditional doorbell to a modern video doorbell. First, there’s the convenience of being able to answer the doorbell without actually having to walk to the door. You can simply talk to the person outside on your phone. It’s also nice to be able to easily see what’s going on outside your door anytime you want. For example, you could check to make sure your Amazon package was delivered.

One thing Anabel Fernandez never expected her Ring video doorbell to capture was a plane crash, yet, that’s just what happened on Monday afternoon.

Around 3pm on Monday, Fernandez’s camera captured a small plane hitting a powerline and then proceeding to hit an SUV as it crashed into the road. The plane was a Beechcraft Bonanza that had recently taken off from a nearby airport and was on its way back to the airport. We have yet to know why the plane crashed, but it could have been due to mechanical failure.

Both of the passengers in the airplane were killed on impact. Inside the SUV were a mom and her young son. They were both transported to the hospital, but the young boy did not survive.

Fernandez told the South Florida Sun Sentinel, “It was like a bomb going off.” She added, “I’m always afraid being here, my family and I see the planes flying very low while we’re walking the neighborhood or sometimes when we’re out back in the pool.”

Seventeen-year-old Salah Elshaer called 911 when he saw the plane crash. He was driving nearby when he heard it happen. He described the scene saying, “It was just flames.” He added, “I just felt bad thinking about the pilot’s family, and the people over in the car who were hurt. It’s sad because this is not the first time this has happened here in this residential area.”

That’s right. This is not the first time there has been a plane crash in this Florida neighborhood. This is actually at least the fifth plane crash in the area in the past year.

There are several flight schools at the nearby airport. It is possible but not confirmed if the pilot was a student.
