The COVID-19 pandemic has had an effect on literally everything. People’s health. People’s jobs. People’s relationships. And now…Peeps.

Yes, Peeps. The candy, produced by Just Born Quality Confections, are known for its sugar-coated marshmallow ducklings on Easter. Whether yellow, pink or blue, people who celebrate Easter look forward to getting their Peeps in their Easter basket every year.

In addition to Easter, Peeps also creates their marshmallow ducks to be seasonal for other holidays as well—from Halloween to Christmas and Valentine’s Day. And what’s better than a holiday-themed treat?

Halloween Peeps come in little smiley little orange jack-o-lanterns, white ghosts and green monsters, the perfect treats to get inside your trick-or-treat bag. And the pink and red Valentine’s Day bunnies in love are a great snack to share with a loved one. The Christmas Peeps come in the shape of trees, snowmen and gingerbread men, and they’re a fun change from the standard cookies we eat each year.

Unfortunately, if you’ve never seen these seasonal Peeps before, you’re probably not going to see them any time soon. The company has just announced that they will be holding off on their Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day themed Peeps for this upcoming year due to COVID-19.

And yet, another thing the virus has cancelled.

It turns out that back in April, the company was forced to temporarily suspend its candy production in order to ensure their employees were healthy and safe. They only resumed limited production in May, causing them to be unable to produce Peeps for these three upcoming holidays.

“This situation resulted in us having to make the difficult decision to forego production of our seasonal candies for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day in order to focus on meeting the expected overwhelming demand for Peeps for next Easter season, as well as our everyday candies,” the company said in a statement.

Sigh. Additionally, the company is also being forced to halt their production on other popular candies, such as Hot Tamales and Mike and Ike fruit candies.

Well, at least we’ll definitely have our fair share of Easter peeps for next year! But that’s a long time to wait for our marshmallow sugary goodness.
