Ooey Gooey Slow Cooker Lava Cake

This recipe may surprise you but it could not be easier. And what a fun way to surprise a loved one; tell them that the chili is ready in the slow cooker, but when they open it they are greeted by and oozingly decadent chocolate lava cake! By using boxed cake and pudding mix, this recipe takes five minutes to whip up and the slow cooker takes care of the rest. The leftovers keep really well too, if there are any that is.

1 (5oz) box instant chocolate pudding

2 cup cold skim milk

1 box Devil’s Food cake mix plus whatever ingredients the box calls for (eggs, oil, water)

2 cups dark chocolate chips

  1. Mix together the pudding with the milk according to the package instructions. Set aside while you prepare the cake mix.
  2. Spray the inside of your slow cooker with nonstick spray. Mix together the cake mix with the necessary ingredients (mine called for 1 cup water, 3 eggs, 1/2 cup vegetable oil. Pour the batter into the basin of your slow cooker. Top with the now firmed up pudding mix. Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top.
  3. Cook on high in your slow cooker for 3-4 hours or until the top of the cake looks set up but a knife inserted into the center comes out gooey and covered in crumbs.
  4. Serve warm. If not serving immediately remove basin from slow cooker and reheat cake to serve.
