This Real-Life Garfield Could Be One of the Biggest Cats in the World!
If you are anything like us, you like your house cats big and fluffy—there’s just nothing better than cuddling up with one of those love bugs on a rainy day! That’s why we are sharing with you recent footage of one kitty who could seriously make a living off of being a Garfield impersonator!
Anyone who has ever owned a Maine Coon knows that these gentle giants are pretty much the Great Danes of the domestic cat world—they just grow and grow and grow. Case in point: Omar, the massive 3-year-old feline who may just be one of the biggest on the planet.
Omar, who hails from Melbourne, Australia, is set to be evaluated by none other than the experts at the Guinness Book of World Records for being the longest domesticated cat. You see, the furry fellow measures out to be an amazing 3 feet 11 inches—approximately the length of an average third grader!
Now, you may not be aware of this, but it can actually be difficult to gauge the size of a cat until they finally reach maturity, especially when it comes to larger breeds, like the Maine Coon.
His owner says that she quickly realized the big feline would not be in a normal size range, back when he was a kitten. She was expecting him to grow to about 9 kilos (roughly 20 pounds), but the cat has far surpassed her expectations, weighing in at an absolutely massive 30.8 POUNDS!
To put that into perspective, an average Maine Coon weighs anywhere between 11 to 18 pounds— still rather large compared to the run-of-the-mill tabby, which weighs about 8.
Omar the star
Not surprisingly, Omar the cat has quite the strong fan base surrounding him. In fact, the big kitty has a remarkable 55,000 followers on Instagram alone, a title that most teens would practically risk life and limb for! On top of the social media fame, Omar has received attention from major news outlets the world over.
And as it turns out, the feline is on a trendy “raw diet” these days, eating almost exclusively uncooked kangaroo meat. Chic!
The current record-holder for the “longest living domestic cat” is a feline prince by the name of Ludo, who is an impressive 3 feet 10.59 inches long. If you are keeping tabs, then you know that Omar is right on Ludo’s tail, so to speak, so it will be up to the judges over at the Guinness Book of World Records to determine whether that extra 0.41 inches holds up.
We think this is a cat that you just have to see to believe! Check out the robust (and handsome!) Omar in action for yourself, by clicking on the video below. Looks like this big guy may soon be a world record holder! Go kitty, go!
