Joining the likes of Ford and General Motors, Nissan is the latest automaker to issue a recall due to a major safety issue. In an urgent request, they are asking owners of specific vehicles to park outside because of a fire risk.

Nissan is recalling over 215,000 vehicles globally due to a faulty anti-lock brake pump which can leak fluid onto a circuit board. That contact has the potential to ignite a fire. Nissan is urging owners to avoid driving and to park outdoors away from others if the anti-lock brake lamp comes on for longer than 10 seconds.

If you notice this warning lamp is illuminated after you start the engine, immediately shut it off. The company is investigating whether there have been any reports of injuries, accidents, or fires, but so far none have been logged.

Here are the vehicle models affected by the recall:

• 2015 – 2017 Nissan Murano
• 2016 – 2017 Nissan Maxima
• 2017 – 2018 Nissan Pathfinder
• 2017 Infiniti QX60

According to the company’s estimates, more than half of the vehicles have the issue which has been linked to a flaw in the pump’s seals. Beginning October 15, vehicle owners can take their cars to a dealership for inspection and repairs.

Dealers will check the pump’s serial number and replace the part if needed. Until then, owners may visit Nissan’s website to run their VIN and verify their vehicle’s eligibility. U.S. customers are also urged to contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with questions or problems.
