Just Add Soda to Box Mixes to Make Extra Fluffy Cake

We love dessert. Cookies, pies, brownies, cakes, you name it, we’ve eaten it, and we probably even have a great go-to recipe for it.

You don’t have to be an expert baker to make delicious desserts either. There are many easy recipes that only take a few ingredients and some that you don’t even need to bake at all.

Take cake, for example. While it can seem intimidating to make a fancy cake from scratch, it doesn’t have to be complicated. With so many box mixes out there, you really don’t need to make it from scratch either.

But, what if you don’t have the eggs and oil a box mix calls for? Or, what if you’re vegan and can’t use the required eggs? There is a super easy solution.

Introducing the Soda Cake. “Soda” does not stand for “baking soda” either. We’re talking about the fizzy beverage sold in cans and bottles pretty much everywhere you go.

Even if you have eggs and oil on hand and even if you’re not vegan, you’ll still want to try this super simple hack. The results are supposed to make a cake extra fluffy and basically, perfect.

All you need to make an entire cake is any box mix cake you like and a can of soda. While you can add any soda to any cake mix, we suggest keeping some flavor combinations in mind. Like, a strawberry cake or a vanilla cake would be great with a can of cream soda. A chocolate cake would be tasty with a can of Coke or root beer. You could even make a lemon cake with a can of Sprite for some extra zing.

Once you’ve chosen your cake mix and soda flavor, pour both of them in a bowl and stir to combine. Then follow the box instructions for baking instructions.

If she can make it, you can too. We think this is a great hack when you’re craving cake but don’t have all of the necessary ingredients, like if you live in a dorm with a shared kitchen or if you’re on vacation and are lucky enough to have a full kitchen (like at an Airbnb). It could even be an easy baking project to do with your kids.
