Why This Mom’s Post About Asking Her Husband to Help with Housework Is Causing a Big Debate

Unless you live in some sort of utopian society where equality reigns, it’s fair to say that one person in your household tends to get shafted with the majority of the cleaning, organizing, cooking, and all-around grunt work—especially if little kids are in the picture!

Sure, you and your partner may have had lofty plans of splitting up all of the household tasks before the kiddos settled in, but, as we all know, one person tends to take the more proactive role, while the other tends to… well…chillax.

Recently, this age-old conundrum was illustrated perfectly by an uber-famous mommy blogger – yep, mommy bloggers CAN be uber-famous these days! – by the name of Constance Hall.

On her Facebook page, the 34-year-old mother and wife relayed a story to her followers about what happened after she sought advice from her friends on the subject of sharing household responsibilities.

Hall, who got married to her partner of a year, Denim Cooke, earlier this month, wrote that one of her confidants made quite the pointed suggestion of “asking for help.” “If you want help you need to be specific… ask for it. People need lists, they aren’t mind readers,” the unnamed friend said.

In the post, Hall revealed that she did, in fact, take her well-meaning bud’s advice. She asked her husband to do everything from waking up with the kids, to going on a grocery store run, to taking the trash out. To her surprise, all that needed to get done did get done, but the success came with quite the caveat. Hall writes:

Yeah, she was right… sh*t got done. But I was exhausted, just keeping the balls in the air… remembering what needs to be asked to be done, constant nagging… And do you know what happened the minute I stopped asking…?

NOTHING. Again.

And so I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not your job to ask for help, it’s not my job to write f*****g lists…

We have enough god dam jobs and teaching someone how to consider me and my ridiculous work load is not one of them.

Just do it.

Just think about each other, what it takes to run the god dam house. Is one of you working while the other puts up their feet? Is one of you hanging out with mates while the other peels the thirtieth piece of fruit for the day? Is one of you carrying the weight?

Because when the nagging stops, when the asking dies down, when there are no more lists…. All your left with is silent resentment. And that my friends is relationship cancer… It’s not up to anyone else to teach you consideration. That’s your job.

Just do the f*****g dishes without being asked once in a while mother f*****s.

Now, you probably wouldn’t be surprised to hear that Hall’s strong choice of words elicited quite the online debate. Most of her followers absolutely loved her straight-to-the-point post, with one of them even calling the mommy blogger her “soul sister.” BUT, the Internet wouldn’t be the Internet without some pushback.

On her Instagram page, Hall said that, while her post was an undeniable success, she did admit that “blokes” told her to “jump off a bridge” upon reading her rant.

Yikes. We’re happy to report that we didn’t see any of these death threats in her comments section, but we did, in fact, find a few naysayers, mostly of the “the man brings home the bacon and the woman does the housework” variety. Either way, it’s clear that Hall ended up striking a chord with many!

Who is this outspoken mom?

This viral post has been shared well over 200,000 times on Facebook alone! It’s quite the feat, although not entirely surprising if you know anything about “Australia’s most controversial mommy blogger.”

Hall – who has four children, is currently pregnant with her fifth and has two stepchildren by her husband – first got her star when she started “mommy blogging” on her social media pages. Her rock ‘n’ roll style sensibility, along with her honest, often crude posts, immediately gained her quite a bit of attention, both positive and negative.

Hall regularly graces the Aussie gossip pages, where she spills the beans on her relationship troubles, legal battles, and even her newest pregnancy, one that she bluntly refers to as a “mistake.”

It goes without saying that many moms love the blogger’s honesty. At the moment, she has millions of followers on social media, a book called Like a Queen, and even a clothing line.

It just goes to show you that bravely sharing your unfiltered opinions can be good for both your household, as well as your career. You go, girl!

We’d love to hear your take on Constance Hall’s controversial social media post. Do you agree with her philosophy on housework? If not, why? Who is your all-time favorite mommy blogger?
