Mom Refused to Pay Her Babysitter Because She Got “Free Ice Cream and a Day of Fun”
Babysitting is a great job for anyone who loves kids looking to make a little extra cash on the side. The average hourly rate for a babysitter is around $12 an hour, so a few nights a week can make your wallet just a little bit tighter.
Well, that is if the parents actually pay you. If you agree upon payment beforehand, and there were no issues during the babysitting process, it’s a simple exchange of money, right?
Unfortunately one babysitter got a pretty unexpected side of the mother of the kids she babysat for. While she and the mother had agreed on a $16/hour rate via text before the day, when the babysitter asked when she could come get her check, the mom acted completely dumbfounded.
“I wasn’t aware payment was involved. You got free ice cream and a day of fun. I’m sorry for the misinterpretation,” she told the babysitter.
Even after the babysitter screen-shotted the texts that proved the mother had agreed to the rate, the mom got pretty snarky with her, telling her that she often deletes her messages and that the babysitter was acting stuck up.
The mom then offers her $20, to which the babysitter tells her once again, the agreed upon rate was $16/hour, making a total of eight hours $128.
The mother then blasts the poor babysitter, explaining that “they’re easy kids” and that she was going to block her.
Can you imagine?
Don’t worry, it does end well for the babysitter. She wound up calling the woman’s husband and explained that if she were to go to court, it would cost much more than the $128. That was enough for the couple to finally agree to pay her the deserved $128, though we’re sure she will never babysit these kids again!
Can you believe this text exchange? What would you have done in this situation? Have you ever had someone agree to pay you for a job and then back out on it?
