In case you don’t already know, Tom Hanks is staring as Mister Rogers in a movie that is going to be released this year in time for Thanksgiving. We know. It’s going to be epic. 

Mister Rogers played a huge part in the childhoods of many children of the 80s and 90s. We remember watching “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” and enjoying the visits to The Land of Make Believe. Now, our children enjoy the updated, animated show inspired by one of the show’s most famous puppets, Daniel Striped Tiger. If you’re a parent, you’re probably familiar with the show “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” which is about the son of Daniel Striped Tiger.

While visits to Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood are all well and good, it’s not the same as the show we grew up watching, and we savor any chance to visit Mister Rogers one more time. We got this opportunity two years ago when we watched the documentary about Fred Rogers that was called “Won’t You Be My Neighbor.”

This new movie, which is titled “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” is not a documentary, but it is based on a true story.  

The movie isn’t just about Fred Rogers. It is also about a journalist named Tom Junod. When Junod went to interview Rogers for an article, his outlook on life was forever changed for the better.

We were super excited when we got our first glimpse of the upcoming movie via a photo that was released of Tom Hanks wearing a red sweater that makes him look just like Fred Rogers. 

Hanks has proven himself to be an amazing actor who can literally transform himself into all sorts of characters, and he has done it once again. The resemblance between Hanks and Rogers is truly remarkable.

Not only does Hanks look like Rogers, but now that an official trailer for the movie has been released, his voice, his mannerisms, truly everything about Hanks makes us forget that we’re watching the actor who stared in movies like “Saving Mr. Banks” and “The DaVinci Code.” His voice doesn’t remind us of Woody from “Toy Story” either. No, it’s like we’re watching Mister Rogers, and we’re not the only ones who are wiping away the tears.
