No matter how long your family member has been away serving in the military or training for combat, it’s a trying experience. It could be days or years, it doesn’t matter: being away from your family and not knowing how they are is painful.

One of the worst parts? Having your family members or friends miss huge parts of your (and often their) life.

That was one of the hardest things for this military wife, who knew she was two weeks pregnant. Her husband had left almost immediately before she found out and would be gone for weeks before she could tell him.

But rather than call her husband up and tell him the good news, she decided to wait until they would be reunited at the end of his military sailor training. She knew this would make the news all the more amazing, hearing it from not just her, but their first son.

When the sailor comes off the Ronald Regan and out of the crowd, his wife and son are there on the docks waiting for him. Another family member is filming them and we found ourselves waiting with bated breath for the secret to break.

At first, we’re confused. There doesn’t seem to be a sign or any indication of a “viral video type” surprise. But then, we notice something: the shirt the little boy, the sailors son, is wearing.

It’s a white t-shirt with an anchor design on it and the words, “Big Brother Aiden” on it.

We weren’t alone, as the father doesn’t seem to notice the big reveal, either! He takes his time saying hello, kissing his family members, and not even noticing the news on the cute little t-shirt.

It takes his pregnant wife to ask, “Do you like his shirt?” before the sailor looks down and realizes what’s happening. How does he feel about their second child coming? Well, his grinning, tearful reaction says it all.

What makes this story even more special is knowing that this couple has been trying so hard to conceive. The pair lost a baby at nine weeks in October of 2014, which was a heartbreaking time for both of them.

So to know that their wishes had been granted and a second child was safely on the way was the best news either of them could have hoped for! And to hear this after being away for a month makes it extra special.
