Good Morning America cohost Michael Strahan recently sat down for an interview with Robin Roberts, but he wasn’t alone. He was joined by his daughter, Isabella Strahan, who sat in the chair next to him and shared something she had intentionally been keeping out of the public eye for the past two months.

Isabella started college at the University of Southern California (USC) in 2023. As a freshman, she was just settling into college life when she started experiencing some uncomfortable health issues. In late September, she experienced severe migraine headaches, dizziness and fatigue.

At first, Isabella assumed she had vertigo due to the dizziness and the trouble she was having walking. Then, a couple weeks later, at the end of October, Isabella experienced a new symptom that alarmed her. She explained, “I was throwing up blood.” She texted her twin sister, Sophia Strahan, and Sophia proceeded to tell everyone in her family what was going on.

It was at that point that Isabella’s family knew she needed to see a doctor. After having multiple tests including an MRI, Isabella’s doctor called her and told her to meet her at Cedars Sinai Medical Center right away. When she got there, she was given the news that she had a type of brain cancer called medulloblastoma. She had surgery the very next day, which happened to be the day before her 19th birthday.

Since then, Isabella has had to relearn how to walk. She went through 30 rounds of radiation, and she is gearing up to start chemotherapy. Through it all, she’s keeping a positive attitude and is excited to share her story instead of continuing to keep it private. She said, “I’m very excited for this whole process to wrap. But you just have to keep living every day, I think, through the whole thing.”

Meanwhile, despite all of the challenges, Michael feels like “the luckiest man in the world” because of his “amazing daughter.” He added, “I know she’s going through it, but I know that we’re never given more than we can handle and that she is going to crush this.”
