NEW Salmonella RECALL: 100 Sick – Pre-cut Melon – Walmart, Target, Whole Foods, Krogers & More Affected

Over 100 people have been sickened by a Salmonella outbreak in nine states involving pre-cut melon.

Grocers affected include all of the majors, such as Walmart, Kroger’s, Whole Foods, Target and others. There’s is a voluntary recall effort underway at these stores due to possible salmonella contamination.

If you have pre-cut melon from these stores please avoid consumption. The Centers of Disease Control announced the voluntary recall on Friday.

Recalled products include pre-cut watermelon, honeydew melon and cantaloupe.

They were distributed in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

If you or anyone you know has pre-cut melon, note that the FDA says to throw it away.

Salmonella symptoms usually start to show 12 to 72 hours after ingesting the bacteria.

Common symptoms including diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps.

Also, it’s important to remember that it’s a good idea to always wash the outside of whole / uncut melons too before cutting into them. Even if you’re not consuming the outer skins, cutting into them can spread harmful bacteria, germs, bugs, etc. from the knife into the edible part of the melon inside.
