Meghan Markle Speaks Out About Being the ‘Most Trolled’ Person in the World

When you look at the lavish world of celebrities, you might think that they have it all: Fame, money, beauty, a personal trainer, the list goes on and on. It must be amazing to live in their shoes!

The thing is, what we see glorified on TV might not be the exact reality of what happens behind closed doors. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are a perfect example of that.

Though it may seem like Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have it all, they recently spoke out about their bullying struggles on the Teenage Therapy Podcast, a podcast hosted by five teenagers. They were interviewed for an episode to raise awareness for World Mental Health Day on October 10.

“I’m told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the entire world-male or female,” she said in the interview. “Now eight months of that I wasn’t even visible. I was on maternity leave or with a baby but what was able to just be manufactured and churned out, it’s almost unsurvivable.”

“That’s so big you can’t even think about what that feels like because I don’t care if you’re 15 or 25 if people are saying things about you that aren’t true what that does to your mental and emotional health is so damaging,” she added.

You might think that because they’re famous, their experiences with bullying and mental health issues aren’t as significant as someone else’s, but, as Meghan says, it’s “universal.” The only problem is that celebrities actually get ridiculed MORE than the average person because people assume their feelings won’t get as hurt.

“Even though our experience is unique to us and obviously can seem very different to what people experience on the day to day, it’s still a human experience and that’s universal,” she said. “We all know what it feels like to have our feelings hurt. We all know what it feels like to be isolated or othered.”

The rest of the episode revolves around topics including prioritizing mental health, acknowledging the stigma around the topic, and more.

In addition, the two talked about how mental health also played a role in their decision to take a step back from the royal family back in January. (More on that here.)
