Evidence seemed to be against the couple who allegedly paid $500,000 and pretended that their daughters were star athletes in order to have them accepted by the University of Southern California.
Now, there’s new evidence, and finally, it’s in Loughlin and Giannulli’s favor. Yes, the couple paid $500,000, but according to the new evidence, the pair 100% believed that they were making a donation that was going directly to USC or the charity of their college admissions advisor, Rick Singer.

Singer is the mastermind behind this whole scheme, and it has appeared that the parents knew the whole time that they were participating in a scheme and paying a bribe to get their children into USC. Now, even Singer says that’s not true.
According to Singer, the FBI wanted him to lie. He wrote, “They continue to ask me to tell a fib and not restate what I told my clients as to where there money was going — to the program not the coach and that it was a donation and they want it to be a payment.”
Lawyers for Loughlin and Giannulli are urging the court to postpone the trial (which is currently scheduled for October) due to this new evidence. Attorney Sean Berkowtiz wrote, “This belated discovery … is devastating to the government’s case and demonstrates that the government has been improperly withholding core exculpatory information, employing a ‘win at all costs’ effort rather than following their obligation to do justice.”
