The ‘Ross from Friends’ Lookalike Thief Has Finally Been Caught

A real-life criminal caper that caught the attention of TV fans worldwide has seemingly been solved. Last month, a British police agency made international news after posting CCTV footage of a suspect who looks EXACTLY like David Schwimmer.

The lookalike was wanted for questioning in the September case of a beer theft from a restaurant in Blackpool. After authorities posted the photo online, it went viral, prompting a hilarious response from the actor. Schwimmer posted a reenactment video claiming his innocence which wound up drawing more attention to the case.

Friends fans around the world couldn’t stop commenting and cracking jokes about the resemblance to the Ross. Some even nicknamed the clip “The One Where Ross Becomes a Thief.”

Both of the original posts – from the police and Schwimmer – have been viewed millions of times. In the funny frenzy, authorities did issue a serious warning against approaching the suspected thief.

Now, police are thanking Schwimmer as the 36-year-old suspect has been arrested. Perhaps he didn’t know everyone was on the lookout for Ross Geller and slipped up.

The Lancashire police also posted a thank-you on social media to the London Metropolitan police who were responsible for the arrest. Their cheeky response made a reference to the Friends theme song with the hashtag #IllBeThereForYou. Maybe the doppelganger mugshot is next?

Did you get caught up in the original story? What are your thoughts on the police force’s sense of humor?
