Divorce can be quite messy. Child custody, child support and celebrity status only make it messier.
In May, after 18 years of marriage, Christine Baumgartner filed for divorce from Kevin Costner. At the time, she also refused to vacate his home, and now, she’s claiming he’s not being completely honest about his financial situation.
Back in 2004, Baumgartner signed a prenup, and you’d think that would make the divorce a little bit less messy. Not so in this case. Baumgartner claims she may not have understand exactly what the prenup was stating when she signed it.
According to the prenup, any money Baumgartner or Costner earned during their marriage would be their own individual property and not community property. In addition, Costner would own his homes, forcing Baumgartner to find a new place to live.
The former couple has three teenage children together, 13-year-old Grace, 14-year-old Hayes, and 16-year-old Cayden. Considering there are children involved, the couple has also argued about child support. Baumgartner wanted $248,000 per month, but instead, the court decided Costner should pay her $129,755 per month.
The battle isn’t over yet. The former couple has a child support hearing scheduled for August 31st and September 1st. Costner was the one who initiated the hearing because he thinks $129,755 a month is more than he should be paying his ex for child support.
Meanwhile, Baumgartner’s legal team claims that Costner’s legal team is withholding “a myriad of bank account and credit card statements which are directly relevant.” Baumgartner wants to see all of her ex’s financial records, but Costner claims they’re “confidential.”
Baumgartner’s attorney wrote, “[Kevin] has asserted that he anticipates his income will decline, as he is no longer involved with the television series Yellowstone. However, [he] is withholding documents, at a minimum, related to his current Horizon project that [Christine] has a right to discover, as such documents evidence his future endeavors and anticipated income.” The attorney continues, “[Kevin’s] objection that such documents are ‘highly confidential’ is similarly a smokescreen, as there is a confidentiality agreement in place in this matter that would resolve any such concerns.”
Costner’s legal team claims that providing all of the documents Baumgartner is requesting would be “burdensome, oppressive and harassing.”
