In-laws don’t always get along or see eye to eye, and that’s no exception when it comes to royal in-laws. Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have never been best friends, but according to a source, Kate is trying to improve her relationship with Meghan.

Even since Prince Harry and Meghan’s daughter Lilibet was born, Kate has been reaching out to Meghan more than ever, trying to form a bond and saying she wants to meet Lili.

A source told US Weekly, “Kate has been reaching out to Meghan a lot more since [Lilibet] was born, she’s sending [notes and] gifts and trying to build up a relationship.” 

Have the gifts and notes been Kate’s idea? Does she really want to be friends with Meghan? Maybe, or maybe she’s just doing her job. According to the source, “The firm has been instructing staffers to reach out more to Harry and Meghan to get them to soften a bit.”

Part of the reason Kate and Meghan are not on great terms is due to the strained relationship between their husbands. Prince Harry has made negative comments about his brother, and it doesn’t help that Prince William has turned around and made negative comments about Meghan.

According to the US Weekly source, “Harry and William have communicated sparingly over the last year, but none of their communications have been friendly in quite some time. There is real animosity that the brothers have toward one another, and that has spilled over to Meghan and Kate’s relationship, making it very hard for them to be friends or even friendly.”

Reportedly, William and Kate don’t see any point in trying to talk to Harry. According to royal author Robert Lacey, “They told friends that they could see no point in talking to Harry, since any discussion of substance would go straight back to Meghan to be leaked out via Oprah [Winfrey] or some other tentacle of the Sussex network.”

Meanwhile, Harry is set to reunite with his brother today, July 1, for the unveiling of a statue in their mother’s honor. Until this point, Harry has been self-quarantining since arriving in the U.K.
