If you have ever had a pet, you probably know that a pet can become like a member of the family. We sometimes love our pets in a similar way to how we love our children.
If you have ever had a pet, you know that they don’t live forever. Perhaps you remember the first time you lost a pet. It could have been a childhood pet, a family dog, a goldfish, or perhaps a hamster. It could have been as an adult, perhaps a pet that grew up with your own children or a pet you had at a time in your life when you really needed a friend and companion.
Pets can be good listeners. They can be good for hugging when you are sad and for cheering you up by making you laugh or smile. They can become a best friend, and when a pet passes away, it can be just as painful as the death of a human friend. Actress Kaley Cuoco knows this pain all too well.
Cuoco shared on Instagram about the death of her beloved dog Norman. She described the feeling of losing her pet as “earth shattering deep gut wrenching pain I didn’t know was possible.” She added, “Norman, you were my entire world for 14 years.”
Fourteen years is a long time to have a pet. It’s a long time to establish a relationship that is nearly impossible to replace.
Cuoco was with her dog when he passed away. She wrote, “Thank you for smiling at me as you left this world, confirming once again our language was ours alone. You will always have my heart.”
Cuoco shared two pictures of herself and Norman. In both photos she looks like she is trying not to cry.

While a pet cannot be replaced, it often helps a pet owner deal with the grief of losing a pet when they adopt a new pet. In Cuoco’s case, she decided to adopt a full grown senior dog named Larry. She shared pictures of her new pet on Instagram writing, “When you know you know! Welcome to the family , Larry!”
Have you ever had a beloved pet pass away? If so, how did you get over the pain of the loss of the pet? Did you adopt a new pet to deal with the grief?
