It’s possible Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez may never make it down the aisle — and not because there’s trouble in paradise.
The couple has been forced to cancel their wedding twice over the past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Their nuptials were originally set to take place in Italy in June, but travel restrictions and safety protocols shut down their plans. Lopez, 51, now says the pair has canceled yet another ceremony, causing them to reconsider their plans altogether.
“You know, we’ve talked about so many different things cause we had to cancel the wedding last year because of COVID, because of the quarantine, and we actually did it twice, which people don’t know, where we had it in different times,” she told Access Hollywood. “First one canceled and then second one canceled as well… we kind of have let it go for a second.”
Lopez and Rodriguez first made their relationship official in 2017. After two years together, Rodriguez, 47, popped the question during a beach vacation with a diamond ring estimated to cost over $1 million. The couple spent the rest of the year planning their wedding, but the pandemic had other plans.
“It’s really sad because we were supposed to get married in June, and we had planned it all,” Lopez said during an interview with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy. “So, in March or April, we’re looking down the pipe and we’re going, ‘this is maybe not going to happen.’ Italy’s the worst place in the world, and we were going to get married in Italy.”
While the singer and actor mentioned she was upset about having invested so much time and planning into their big day, she admits a lavish wedding just isn’t in the cards right now. Lopez said she and Rodriguez are currently focused on spending time with their families. She has 12-year-old twins with ex-husband Marc Anthony, and Rodriguez shares daughters Natasha, 16, and Ella, 12, with ex Cynthia Scurtis.
“I don’t know what we’re going to do,” she said. “I think we just feel like, ‘let’s just wait it out.’ There’s no rush, we’re good, everything’s cool and it’ll happen when the time is right. I feel like it’s not a huge priority to go and have a big wedding right now, that’s not what life is about.”
Back in April, Rodriguez joked about the possibility of a drive-through wedding during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. The former Yankee’s remark was, of course, in reference to the drive-through parades many people were holding at the start of the pandemic.
Although Lopez doesn’t appear to be on board with the idea of a drive-through ceremony, she seems content with taking the wait-and-see approach. Do you think the couple will make it to the altar? Let us know in the comments!
