Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Hilarie Burton Welcome Their Daughter and Reveal a Private Struggle
For any One Tree Hill and Walking Dead lovers out there, you’re probably already a huge fan of Hilarie Burton and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as a couple, both alums of each show, respectfully.
And now, fans are going to be even more elated with some more current news: The two welcomed their daughter, George Virginia Morgan, on February 18, 2018. They also have an 8-year-old son named Augustus – or “Gus,” as they call him – and now their family of four is complete. They all couldn’t be happier with the new little precious addition.
However, that doesn’t mean pregnancy was a breeze for Hilarie. In fact, the actress recently shared a very heartbreaking story on her Instagram detailing just how opposite of a breeze it was for her. Her and Jeffrey faced many struggles during the time they were trying to have a baby, and she really wanted others who might be going through the same thing to hear her.
The two have always been pretty hush-hush about their relationship. They met in 2009, had Augustus in 2010, and got married in 2011. The way they even “announced” their pregnancy was low-key and semi secretive— it was on the carpet of the 2017 Emmy Awards, when Jeffrey put his hand on her belly, smiling mischievously.
So the fact that Hilarie is opening up so much about her struggles with pregnancy are humbling. It also makes us want to hug her, a lot.
On the Instagram post, Hilarie discusses a tear-jerking miscarriage she experienced. “The first time I got pregnant, it took a year and a half,” she wrote on her post. “I surprised him on Christmas with baby Seahawk booties. We cried. We celebrated. We picked out names. And we lost that baby.”
She then continued, talking about how it wasn’t just one miscarriage. The two endured the pain of more losses as the years trickled on. “More losses followed, and as so many couples know, it was heartbreaking. It still is heartbreaking,” Hilarie wrote.
Things remained pretty glum after that, especially for Hilarie, who said she was so painfully jealous of all the celebrities who she saw were pregnant that she would cry at her kitchen table every morning, whenever news of one would pop up on her laptop. “It pained me to see the corporate sponsored baby showers and magazine covers capitalizing on this human miracle that wasn’t happening for us,” she said.
Understandably so, when the couple found out they were pregnant with George, they were hesitant to celebrate too soon. They didn’t want to jinx it in fear of another loss. Hilarie said she checked her heart beat every single day, and just hoped and prayed everything would turn out as it should.
And on February 18, the couple really could finally celebrate. George was here, healthy and lively as possible. “She screams bloody murder and I smile because she is so wildly alive,” Hilarie said in her post.
Hilarie has an inspiring a message to other parents trying for a baby who might be going through the same thing as she did: “I don’t want her birth to cause any other woman to weep at her kitchen table,” Hilarie wrote. “If anything, my wish is that she would restore hope for others. Fertility is a fickle thing. And for the other couples out there who have had dark days, we want to introduce our miracle baby to you and send you our love and support in finding yours.”
Hilarie and Jeffrey are a truly inspiring couple, and we couldn’t be happier for them and their new addition. Did this story tug at your heartstrings as much as it did ours?
