How to Pay Less for Wi-Fi on an Airplane
Getting online during a flight can not only conquer boredom. It can ensure that you don’t waste flight time and that you’re actually productive. And to access Wi-Fi for less (or free) is an even bigger bonus.
Here are a couple of tricks that Lifehacker suggests for getting online for less:
- Get a discount on Wi-Fi by pretending your computer is a smartphone. All you have to do is change your browser’s user agent (see video below) and you’ll automatically be able to get a lower price on your Wi-Fi for that particular flight.
- Check coupon sites like RetailMeNot to see if you can find an offer for discounted or free Wi-Fi.
- Look into rental car or other travel packages that offer free airplane Wi-Fi as an incentive.
-
If you have a friend or two that flies at least once a month you can buy and share an already discounted monthly pass. So long as you don’t use it at the same time you’ll be able to share without issue. Better yet, if you’re always flying the same airline you might be able to get an airline-specific discount as well. Delta, for example, offers monthly plans for $5 less than the standard any-airline option if you stick with them.
