How Long Will Your Quality Deli Meats Last?
I used to work at a Wal-Mart deli section in Lafayette, LA. (Louisiana). I am currently unemployed. I also got the job thru Goodwill Industries of Acadiana. I lost my work because of what I feel is a hostile situation at work, and seemingly with my manager. It may be that I seem biased. I am mentally ill. I went to trade school in Lafayette, LA. , and completed a diploma culinary arts program. I miss working, but I feel as if I won’t return to work. I live on social security.
Deli meat bought from behind the deli counter is a really good tasting meat compared to slightly less expensive lunch meats in any category. The cheese is also a nicer quality usually. People would make small talk with me about the economy, how everything was hard to pay for, also, how they were trying to save money while shopping. A customer pointed out that he liked the savings that he had felt that he discovered.
He told me about how much money a person could save making sandwiches instead of buying a lunch out. As people go to work it seems, a lot of them eat a lunch without going home. I thought what a great idea. This was at least at first.
You see, this are what seem to be good ideas. I still am hoping to find a way to be a real good idea.
However, People would come in and tell me that they wanted to get a pound or one and a half pounds of lunch meat because the thought the meat they were buying was going to last in the refrigerator for an acceptable length of time. It was actually turning out that the meat would rot before they could eat it. The reason for this is as I see it. When I put food into my refrigerator, I expect it to last about or exactly one week. That is seven days. The trouble was the meat sold in our deli was already in a 7 day count down once we opened the package that the meat came in.
If you open a plastic wrap on the meat the first time then you have seven days before it cannot be safely eaten. When in doubt throw it out. If the packaged meat was opened one day before you buy it then you will only have six days to eat it. If you buy it the next day then you have five days to eat it. If you buy the meat six days after it is opened it is only good for one day in your home. No sales associate at the deli will tell you this. People seemed so frustrated with themselves; because they believed in the product then they were in themselves, when it came to the money wasted.
I saw time and again, people buying talking as if they believed in the product we were selling , and blaming themselves for not eating all of the meat they bought. Can you imagine parents trying to organize their family finance?
If you buy at a deli your meat probably won’t last in a refrigerator for a whole week. You must buy less, but that’s if you still buy the deli meat.
I have mentioned wal-mart.
However, I believe this is the industry standard for delis in super markets.
