What happens when a child star grows up? You’d hope that all the money the child made during their younger entertainment career would be waiting for them when they reached adulthood and actually needed it for things like college expenses, buying a car or a downpayment on a first house. That isn’t always the case.

Parents are legally required to open a Coogan account to set aside a percentage of their child star’s income for the future, but they are also legally allowed to keep some of the money for themselves.

Alana Thompson, who became famous as a child called Honey Boo Boo, is now all grown up and thinking about going to college. She assumed that she had plenty of money waiting for her to pay for college considering she’s been on TV since she was 6 years old. Unfortunately, that’s not the case.

PEOPLE reports that on a recent episode of “Mama June: Family Crisis,” Alana and her sister Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird confront their mother Mama June Shannon about the surprisingly small amount of money left in Alana’s Coogan account. It turns out that Mama June set aside the absolute minimum for her youngest daughter and pocketed the rest for herself. Lauryn reacted to this revelation by saying, “I honestly did not think she could stoop that low.”

The discovery was also apparently news to Mama June’s husband, Justin Stroud. When Alana confronted him about it asking where her money is, he responded that he doesn’t know. On the car ride home, Justin called his wife a “liar,” and in a confessional, he shared that he wanted her to “stop lying.”

Meanwhile, in a confessional, Alana threatened to take her mom to “court” for taking her money. She said, “you ain’t fitting to just get away with stealing my money.”
