If you’re a fan of ours, then you know how much we LOVE sharing makeovers—we think there’s just something so special about seeing someone look at themselves in a whole new way! But today’s example is just a wee bit more extraordinary, because the subject of this viral clip is one of the most deserving recipients we’ve encountered yet!

Prior to receiving his head-turning makeover, Majorca, Spain’s José Antonio was homeless, living on the streets, and scraping up as much money as he could to save up for a modest room rental.

The 55-year-old had, sadly, grown accustomed to living without a roof over his head. He had been without a permanent home for 25 years, performing odd jobs to get by to pay for necessities like food and clothing. Most recently, Antonio had been working as an unlicensed parking attendant in a busy city square.

Workers and local residents came to know him over the years, including the owner of the popular area salon, La Salvajeria. To celebrate the third anniversary of the successful shop, the employees made up their minds to give back to the community in the best way they knew how—by giving a makeover to someone in need.

The viral video shows the step-by-step process that Antonio underwent to complete the transformation. The stylists focused mainly on his full head of hair, adding layers to give it some definition and body, as well as some rich, brown dye to give him a more youthful appearance.

The barber then moved on to his scraggly, white beard, which was shaved down and colored to match his new locks. To complete the change, someone hooked him up with some hip, colorful threads and jewelry. We’re really digging his new, hipster style!

When Antonio finally gets the opportunity to take his first glance at his new and improved look, he has the best reaction. “I don’t recognize myself!” he tearfully exclaims. And, after some frankly, forgivable expletives, the man seems to start settling into his new appearance. “It’s really me!” he says.

Though we absolutely love the fact that, after receiving the makeover, Antonio has a new lease on life, we have to say that the most profound part of the story is the reason behind why he ended up on the streets in the first place.

Over two decades ago, the hero of our story was working as an electrician, but severe depression kept him from keeping a stable job, a sad fate that we think too many people endure.

Interestingly enough, this particular clip was actually filmed back in 2015—some 18 months ago—but it was only posted to the salon’s page this past week. We are happy to report that, since receiving the makeover, Antonio is officially off the streets, and even keeping up his new, signature look.
